Hambleton are currently working on a new constabulary district headquarters in West Yorkshire. The police station will include 10,000 square metres of accommodation, a new custody suite for more cell space, property store, atrium, lockers, gym, public front of house, and all associated ancillary areas. Hambleton fabricated 800 tonnes of structural steel for the building as well as a split-level multi-storey car park.
When it is completed, the new regional headquarters will eventually house officers from nearby towns. The existing facilities in several locations were reaching their end of life, so this new station will include the latest technology and a modern and efficient station to support the police force across West Yorkshire.
This station, and a smaller sister project in a neighbouring town, represents a significant investment by the council that are dedicated to providing towns with helpdesks and officers on the streets. This project also ensures that local officers will remain based within the communities they serve. Additionally, the facility will include dedicated on-site parking for police vehicles, reducing potential disruption for businesses and commuters in the area.
The sister station will act as a satellite station with the majority of officers being based at the new regional headquarters. It will be a ‘L-shaped’ two-storey brick-built building with car parking. It will have the capacity for 258 people in the building, but there will be around 98 staff on site at any one time. There will not be any cells at the sister station and anyone arrested will be taken to the new headquarters.
Hambleton are proud to be involved with such an important project that has received backing from the local council and the community who were consulted during the design process. A commonly made request was to have a public enquiry desk and this has been included in the new district headquarters.
