- Structural Steelwork
- Metal Decking
Project Description
As Guernsey’s principal healthcare facility, the Princess Elizabeth Hospital required a major expansion to support the island’s growing healthcare needs. Hambleton Steel was appointed to deliver over 11,000m² of structural steelwork, forming part of an ongoing multi-phase investment in the hospital’s infrastructure.
This earlier phase of development demonstrated our ability to manage complex logistics and technical demands with precision, ensuring delivery to exact specification and within tight programme constraints.
Challenges l Solutions
Situated on the Channel Islands, the project presented unique logistical challenges. Every load of fabricated steel was transported from Portsmouth to Guernsey, requiring meticulous planning and coordination between our fabrication team, shipping partners, and on-site installation crews.
To maintain the project schedule, steel was dispatched in erectable batches, allowing for direct installation upon arrival.
Construction took place within the operational hospital site, demanding strict adherence to health and safety protocols and minimal disruption to ongoing medical services. Close collaboration with the main contractor and hospital management ensured that all works were completed safely and without impacting daily operations.
Despite the complexities of transport and site constraints, the 20-week erection programme was delivered seamlessly, reflecting our team’s commitment to precision planning, quality workmanship, and timely execution.
