Execution Class 3
- Structural steelwork
- Trusses and overhead crane support
Working with GMI, Hambleton Steel were appointed to design and build a steel framed train facility on behalf of their client, Siemens. The train manufacturing plant and supply chain rail village is in Goole, East Yorkshire, and the site will bring nearly 1,000 jobs to the area, and around 1,700 jobs in the supply chain.
The £200m Goole Rail Village includes a state of the art assembly and service centre. The facility will expand Siemens Mobility’s overhaul and repair capabilities for a number of different parts of both trains and trams. This will allow them to keep trains from Scotland to the South Coast running efficiently and reliable. The site also includes a hub complex, for project management, procurement, finance and other essential operations.
The largest part of the train facility is the manufacturing area which will enable them to assemble the next generation of rolling stock for the UK. The (RaisE), Rail Accelerator and Innovation Solutions hub for Enterprise, is for engineers, designers and researchers to collaborate on developing new rail solutions and to create improvements for existing technology.
The new facilities will also provide development opportunities with practical learning and real world experience. The apprentice programme offers a combination of academic teaching and hands-on practise with college based learning and workplace activity at Goole. Apprentices also have the opportunity to visit the rolling stock facility in Vienna. This enables them to learn from colleagues in a well-established, global manufacturing operation, and bring back knowledge to the UK team.
Siemens have engaged with many suppliers across the UK to contribute to the Goole facility, as well as supply components for the new trains. Companies supporting the construction include CR Reynolds, Clay 10, Premier Modular and Hambleton Steel. We provided the structural steelwork for the design and build training facility, as well as truss and overhead crane support for phases 1 and 2 of the train facility.
Further investment is planned for the site in the future which will increase the number of jobs and provide a further boost for the region’s economy, while also supporting hundreds of skilled jobs. The world-class facility will be transformational for Goole and the local community.
