Hambleton Steel delivered the complete 400-tonne structural steel package for Space Studios Manchester, a major film and television production facility delivered for VINCI. The development comprised a large trussed stage building alongside four ancillary buildings, providing purpose-built facilities for high-performance broadcast and production use.
The steelwork package incorporated both hot rolled and cold rolled structural systems, including approximately 83 tonnes of trusses, with the main stage achieving an impressive 212ft x 140ft clear span. Specialist acoustic requirements were incorporated into the structure, including acoustic bearings and carefully coordinated framing systems, demonstrating Hambleton's capability in delivering technically demanding steelwork packages where structural, acoustic and operational requirements must work together.
A key challenge was the constrained live-site environment, with the works taking place adjacent to an operational television recording studio and occupied residential apartments. Hambleton's delivery required detailed planning and coordination, restricted working hours and enhanced controls for noise, dust and vibration to minimise disruption while maintaining the construction programme.
The project showcases Hambleton Steel's ability to deliver large-scale, complex structural steelwork for specialist film, television and media facilities, from fabrication through to erection, coordination and safe delivery in challenging operational environments.
