- Erection of structural steelwork
The project involves the fabrication, supply, and erection of approximately 750 tonnes of structural steel to form the multi-level frame of the new car park. Hambleton Steel will work closely with the principal contractor and design team to ensure efficient on-site assembly, incorporating integrated stair cores and deck support structures. The new car park is designed to improve accessibility and capacity for visitors, supporting the broader regeneration of Prestwich’s urban centre with modern infrastructure.
Vinci has been selected by Muse and Bury Council to be the main contractor for the redevelopment of Prestwich village centre. The £100m development of the Longfield Centre site will start with the construction of a multi-storey car park and travel hub.
The project will deliver 301 car parking spaces, including electric vehicle charging points and cycle storage. The new multi-storey car park will replace the Fairfax Road car park and will also include a car club. Enterprise Car Club was launched in Prestwich in 2022 which allows individuals and local businesses to hire electric cars by the hour or the day. Becoming a member of the car club also gives people access to the network of car clubs and related vehicles across the UK.
The initiative is for those who don’t have their own car, want to reduce their own car usage or explore green alternatives. The car club will help reduce congestion and improve air quality for people in Prestwich with more sustainable options.
The overall of the Longfield Centre site will introduce new shops, community facilities, public green spaces and much needed new homes in Prestwich village. The plans also include the provision of live event space as well as a market hall to help regenerate the village.
Construction began in the summer of 2025 and completion is targeted for early 2026. Hambleton Steel’s proven track record in delivering complex, multi-storey structures ensures the project will meet key performance, safety, and sustainability benchmarks.
