Hambleton Steel have been appointed as the main contractor for the Eurovia Innovation and Technology Centre in Thurrock. Eurovia partner with and support local businesses, and they also operate nationally throughout the UK with surfacing contracts. They are a major producer of asphalt and bitumen-related products via their plants in the South East of England.
Eurovia is continually carrying out research and development of road surfaces and the new building will become a national centre for the company. In addition to a laboratory, the centre will include offices and facilities for 40 workers, which is expected to operate 24x 7.
Eurovia has a group of engineers that develops new surfaces for roads and pavements, as well as the maintenance and design of the products. The company will also develop new carbon reduction methods and products at the Innovation and Technology Centre. They are looking to make use of more recycled and secondary aggregates to help reduce the amount of carbon used when new road surfaces and pavements are installed. A new and different project being developed at the centre is new eco-friend plants that will reduce noise emissions and greenhouse gas emissions.
The Eurovia Innovation and Technology Centre will contain a number of large-scale test machines that are capable of performing performance tests and specialised bituminous material designs, to allow the development of new products to increase road safety.
Hambleton Steel has been appointed as part of Phase 1 of the project and have delivered the structural steelwork, metal decking and off-site intumescent paint application to all steel work on the building. The centre will be one and two storeys high, constructed mainly of steel and glass. Hambleton Steel’s project team have been on site for the past couple of months, completing the steelwork erection with the overall completion of all work by Hambleton Steel completed early April.
We champion a circular economy approach, as we incorporate cold technology, recycling systems and the use of recycled products into our choice of materials which contribute to a better whole-life performance and a smaller environmental footprint.
