Hambleton Steel delivered the 380-tonne structural steel package for the Doncaster Cultural and Learning Centre, a landmark £14 million development that combines contemporary architecture with the heritage of the former Doncaster Grammar School for Girls.
The new steel-framed building was designed around the retained Edwardian entrance, preserving a key element of the site's history within a modern public facility.
The structural steelwork incorporates large open spans, prominent cantilevers and a fully glazed façade, creating a light, open and flexible environment for visitors while showcasing the retained historic architecture. Delivered for main contractor Willmott Dixon, the project demonstrates Hambleton Steel's capability in delivering substantial structural steelwork for complex public-sector and cultural developments, particularly where new construction must integrate sensitively with existing and historic structures.

Working with Hambleton Steel on Manchester City Campus College was an enjoyable experience for ourselves and the wider design team. Hambleton brought their knowledge and skill by collaboratively working with the whole team from RIBA Stages 2/3 until completion by problem solving, giving advise on buildability and bringing efficiencies to the design to ensure it maintained within budget.
