David Lloyd Club Kettering
Hambleton Steel successfully delivered the 170-tonne structural steel package for the new David Lloyd Clubs health, fitness and leisure facility at Hanwood Park, Kettering, working for main contractor Foxton Construction.
The two-storey facility has been designed to provide a comprehensive leisure destination, incorporating modern gym and fitness facilities, swimming pools, spa and wellbeing areas, alongside tennis and padel facilities. Hambleton Steel's scope included the full structural steel frame, together with the erection of two precast concrete stair cores and a precast lift shaft.
Prior to commencing site operations, the project involved 12 weeks of detailed design coordination, steel detailing, fabrication and protective painting, ensuring the steelwork was fully prepared for an efficient erection programme. Hambleton subsequently delivered and erected the steelwork on site, coordinating closely with Foxton Construction and the wider project team to maintain programme requirements.
The completed package demonstrates Hambleton Steel's capability to deliver large-scale structural steelwork for complex leisure and sports developments, combining detailed pre-construction coordination with controlled off-site fabrication and efficient site erection.
The project forms part of David Lloyd Clubs' continued expansion of its premium health, fitness and wellbeing facilities and represents a significant new leisure destination for Kettering and the wider Hanwood Park community.

Working with Hambleton Steel on Manchester City Campus College was an enjoyable experience for ourselves and the wider design team. Hambleton brought their knowledge and skill by collaboratively working with the whole team from RIBA Stages 2/3 until completion by problem solving, giving advise on buildability and bringing efficiencies to the design to ensure it maintained within budget.
