Hambleton Steel's Andrew Fixter spends the day at a local food charity

Sprouts Community Food Charity works in disadvantage areas of Stockton-on-Tees to support those most in need and it is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of their community.

Among the projects they run are a lunch club for the elderly to reduce isolation, a homeless café to create a safe space and provide hot meals, and 3 eco shops, to reduce food waste and help those in poverty.

Andy Fixter, Contracts Director, at Hambleton Steel recently spent the day at Sprouts to carry out a number of maintenance jobs that the charity had not been able to complete for some time.

Barbara Hampson, from Sprouts Community Food Charity said, "On behalf of everyone I would like to say an enormous thank you to Andy for spending the day with us. We've had a few jobs that we just haven't been able to get to, so Andrew's offer of help was really timely and essential."

At the site a ramp had been used to move large quantities of food around, however it had dropped down leaving a big step, which made it impossible for staff to get the food trollies into the community shop. There was also a lot of loose bark which prevented the trollies from moving about freely. Andy helped repair the ramp and put down netting which resolved the movement issue for the trollies.

While there, Andy also helped bring food donations in the shop and get them on the shelves ready for opening.

Well done, Andy for all of your hard work and supporting our goals to continue to adding value to our local communities.
