Hambleton Steel is proud to celebrate a great milestone as Technical Manager, Martyn Pysanczyn, marks 16 years with the business.

Since joining in 2010, Martyn has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and technical development. Starting his journey as an engineer, his role has evolved significantly over the years, expanding alongside the business itself. Today, as Technical Manager, Martyn not only continues to design buildings and connections but also leads and supports the wider design team, contributes to internal processes, and plays a key role in maintaining Hambleton’s standards.
Reflecting on his time with the company, Martyn highlights the people he has worked with as one of his proudest achievements. He has been instrumental in mentoring and developing emerging talent, taking particular pride in seeing young engineers grow and progress within the business. “Having people who I know will go on to be even better engineers than me, ready to step up, makes me proud every day,” he said.
Over the past 16 years, both Martyn’s role and Hambleton Steel as a whole have undergone significant change. While his responsibilities have broadened, the company has also evolved into a more streamlined and forward-thinking organisation. Investment in in-house systems such as IronPrice, Load Tracker, and Tendr has enabled greater control over data and processes, enhancing efficiency and supporting continued growth. This commitment to innovation and continuous improvement has been a defining feature of Hambleton’s success.
Despite the many changes, one thing has remained constant for Martyn is the people. “It’s a cliché, but it really is the people that make it worthwhile,” he explains. He speaks highly of the design team, describing them as both a pleasure to work with and a source of healthy challenge, particularly their willingness to question established ways of working and push for better solutions.
When it comes to standout projects, Martyn finds it difficult to choose just one. Among his highlights are Preston Animate, a complex mixed-use development where his efficient design delivered significant material savings; Tesco Dudley, one of his early large-scale supermarket projects that helped shape future work across the Midlands; and the Garden Heart at New Covent Garden Market, a project he still enjoys seeing in person, known for its distinctive architectural features.

Looking back to his first day, Martyn reflects on the value of experience and perspective. His advice to his younger self would be simple but powerful: "listen, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to admit when you don’t know something." It’s a mindset that has clearly contributed to his long-standing success.
Martyn’s dedication, technical expertise, and commitment to both his colleagues and the business have made a lasting impact over the past 16 years. Everyone at Hambleton Steel would like to thank him for his continued hard work and contribution, and we look forward to many more successful years ahead.
