Hambleton Steel marks the retirement of Roy Barrow, Contract Coordinator, following more than 16 and a half years of dedicated service to the company.
Roy joined Hambleton Steel in March 2010, working alongside Mike Dixon and Andy Fixter. During his tenure, he has played an important role in supporting operations and has witnessed significant developments within the business, including increased modernisation and improved operational efficiency.
Reflecting on his time with the company, Roy highlighted the aspects he valued most:
“The people and the challenge - there is always something new.”
His contributions and commitment have made a lasting impact on both colleagues and the wider organisation.
As he looks ahead to retirement, Roy plans to enjoy a well-earned period of relaxation while remaining active, with interests including exercise, table tennis and bowls. He will begin this new chapter with a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords next Easter, a fitting way to celebrate his years of service.
When asked about his ideal day in retirement, Roy described a simple and enjoyable routine:
“A drive out in the sunshine to a nice coffee shop in Northumberland, where they serve good cakes.”
In a light-hearted reflection on his time at Hambleton Steel, Roy estimates he has consumed approximately 19,000 cups of tea during his career.
