Hambleton Steel is pleased to feature in the July/August 2026 issue of New Steel Construction (NSC), with the magazine highlighting the transformation of Freshney Place in Grimsby and the important role structural steelwork is playing in the project.
The £50 million Freshney Place redevelopment is a major town-centre regeneration scheme, being delivered by GMI Construction Group for North East Lincolnshire Council, with Hambleton Steel appointed to deliver the structural steelwork package.
The project is set to transform the existing shopping centre into a modern, mixed-use destination, with a new five-screen cinema, food and market hall, new commercial and leisure space and an improved public realm.
Steelwork helping to shape Grimsby's town centre
For Hambleton Steel, the project involves delivering a design and build structural steelwork package of almost 400 tonnes, including the steel frame for the new cinema building as well as structural alterations and extensions to the existing centre.
The steelwork is being fabricated, supplied and erected by Hambleton Steel, with our teams working closely with GMI Construction Group and the wider project team to coordinate the package and ensure the works progress safely and efficiently on site.
The construction of the cinema frame has provided a highly visible sign of progress, with the emerging steel structure demonstrating the scale of the transformation taking place at Freshney Place.
The project was recently marked by a steel signing ceremony, celebrating the progress made on site and the contribution of the steelwork package to the wider development.
A project with a lasting impact
Freshney Place forms an important part of Grimsby's wider regeneration programme. Once complete, the development will create a new destination for residents and visitors, helping to attract new businesses, increase footfall and support the long-term economic future of the town.
The project is currently scheduled for completion in 2027, with construction continuing to progress on site.
