Hambleton Steel is playing a central role in the delivery of Guernsey’s new further education campus at Les Ozouets.
Hambleton Steel are supplying and fabricating the structural steelwork that will form the backbone of this development. Hambleton was appointed by main contractor ROK Group of Companies to deliver nearly 500 tonnes of steelwork for the project, which is being developed for States of Guernsey.
Designed by architects Design Engine, with structural engineering by RGA Consulting Engineers, the new Les Ozouets Campus will bring together five existing education sites into one modern, purpose-built facility.

Two Key Buildings Taking Shape:
Hambleton Steel’s scope covers two interlinked steel-framed structures that are now rising on site. The Main Building, a three-storey development providing around 5,300m² of teaching space, has been designed to integrate with the existing Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts. The steel frame enables large, open-plan teaching areas at ground floor level through the use of transfer beams, while upper floors follow a more traditional classroom layout.
Alongside this, the Construction and Engineering Building (C&EB) will provide 2,735m² of specialist vocational training space. Featuring a distinctive saw-tooth roof, the structure includes large, column-free workshop areas formed using long-span beams, creating flexible environments for engineering and vehicle maintenance activities.
Delivering Steel to an Island Site:
All steelwork has been fabricated at Hambleton Steel’s North Yorkshire facility before being transported to the south coast and shipped across the English Channel to Guernsey, logistics were carefully coordinated through our haulier Profreight Group. Working within the constraints of island logistics presented unique challenges. The majority of steel members were designed to suit standard 13.6m trailers, although longer 18.4m cambered beams were also successfully delivered. Once on the island, loads required police escort due to the narrow road network. Steel erection is being undertaken by local contractor Siteweld, ensuring efficient coordination between mainland supply and on-island construction.

With construction progressing well, the Les Ozouets Campus is on track for completion in Spring 2027. Once finished, it will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for post-16 education in Guernsey.
For Hambleton Steel, the project highlights its capability to deliver complex steelwork solutions across challenging logistics environments, while supporting high-profile developments that make a lasting impact on local communities.
