A major milestone has been reached on the £50 million Freshney Place redevelopment in Grimsby, with a steel signing ceremony highlighting the strong progress being made on site.

The scheme is led by GMI Construction, who instructed Hambleton Steel to deliver the design and build structural steel package. The wider project team includes Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers as structural engineer and The Harris Partnership as architect.

Hambleton Steel is responsible for the design, fabrication, supply and erection of the structural steelwork, delivering the new five-screen cinema building alongside structural alterations and extensions to the existing centre. Works are now well underway, with the cinema steel frame visibly taking shape and demonstrating the scale and progress of the project.

Once complete in 2027, the redevelopment will transform the existing shopping centre into a modern, multi-use destination. The project includes a new cinema complex, a contemporary food and market hall within an upgraded building, new commercial and leisure units, and a redesigned public square.

Delivered by North East Lincolnshire Council with Government support, the scheme is a key part of the town’s regeneration strategy, aimed at increasing footfall, attracting new businesses and supporting the long-term economic future of Grimsby.
