At Hambleton Steel, we are proud to announce that we have launched our charity partnership programme. This initiative will see us partner with charities and work with them to support their events, plan our own fundraising challenges and support their volunteering requirements; all while helping to raise their profile in our industry.

In December last year, we asked our staff to nominate a charity of their choice. This could have been because they’ve had support from the charity, volunteer with them or just know about they great work they do. We received various nominations and after a vote by all staff we are delighted to announce that our chosen charity partners for 2024 are Street Paws and the Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity.

Street Paws is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to bridge the gap between animal and human welfare services, ensuring that pets are not left behind in the fight against homelessness. Street Paws’ mission is to:

  • To provide free vet care for people experiencing homelessness.
  • To protect the human animal bond by keeping pets and their owners together wherever possible.
  • To equip hostels with the training and resources they need to become pet friendly.

Michelle Southern OBE, Street Paws founder said, “I started Street Paws in 2016 after working in a soup kitchen in Newcastle. I met a homeless man with his pet dog and after chatting with him I couldn’t stop thinking about how hard it must be to access vet care. We believe that no one should be forced to make a choice between their dog and shelter. We are delighted to have been selected to be Hambleton Steel’s charity of the year and are looking forward to launching some exciting fundraising events with the team."

Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity is Yorkshire's leading brain tumour charity dedicated to raising funds for life changing research and patient support. The mission of YBTC is to support patients and their loved ones through the devastation a primary brain tumour diagnosis can bring, making sure they have someone to turn to at any stage of their journey, while funding innovative research across Yorkshire to find better treatments and ultimately a cure.

David Grant-Roberts from YBTC said, “We’re absolutely delighted to be chosen as charity of the year by Hambleton Steel for 2024. At YBTC, we don’t receive any government funding and the current financial climate is more testing than ever, so this support will make a tremendous difference to the charity and our beneficiaries. All of the money raised will go directly towards helping brain tumour patients and their loved ones in Yorkshire.”
