Our design team engineer savings to allow clients to do more with less

Our experienced estimating team work hand-in-hand with qualified structural designers to provide a quick response and price for most structural design schemes.

We use our considerable combined knowledge of the industry to provide a true estimate that will avoid unforeseen 'extras' at the end of a contract, which may provide unwanted budgetary problems for both us and our Clients.

Value Engineering

Value engineering suggestions can be made to complement the Structural Engineer's design to come up with the most effective and productive overall design for the job.

The importance of connection design is often overlooked in the costing process, but our design team are available at both the estimate and construction stages to ensure that this critical element receives the proper attention that it deserves.

Offering Design and Build

As well as providing 'up-front' Design and Build capability, our team are always willing to assess a pre-engineered contract for D&B viability. We explore alternative framing solutions, different floor and roof construction materials, or the introduction or removal of trusses and plate girders all to ensure the best possible design is carried forward.

Quality you can be assured of

Our design team work to the latest standards, and our processes are audited as part of our ISO 9001 accreditation.

Design & Build Process

1

Enquiry Review

We review all the available information that will feed into the design process: Specifications, employer’s requirements, contract documentation, architectural and engineering drawings.

2

Initial Design

We explore different arrangements of structure, look for efficiencies taking account of likely connection detailing, fabrication ease and safety, construction sequencing, and find the most efficient frame design possible from a whole cost perspective, not just a minimum weight solution.

3

GA submission

The final designs are communicated through sharing of 3D design models. The design model is brought in-line with the precise geometric requirements for construction, the secondary elements are modelled, and from the construction model our General Arrangement drawings are produced and submitted to the design team for review.

4

Design Team Review

Our GA drawings are submitted, and reviewed at Design Team Meetings. Any proposed alterations submitted to us in the approval period are incorporated into our model and drawings, and resubmitted for final approval.

5

Towards fabrication

Our engineers design the connections, and pass calculation and sketches to the drawing office. The detailers update the construction model with the connection designs, and produce fabrication drawings.

6

Fabricate, Deliver, Erect

Starting with Just In Time deliveries from stockholders and mills, the fabrication process begins in our production facility. After fabrication is complete, we apply paint in-house and after drying, the steel is ready to be delivered to site in erectable loads for swift on-site execution.

One of the reasons I chose an apprenticeship was because I could earn and learn at the same time. Working at Hambleton Steel has provided me with day-to-day training and experience which has helped me understand the industry and business.

Working with Hambleton Steel on Manchester City Campus College was an enjoyable experience for ourselves and the wider design team. Hambleton brought their knowledge and skill by collaboratively working with the whole team from RIBA Stages 2/3 until completion by problem solving, giving advise on buildability and bringing efficiencies to the design to ensure it maintained within budget.
